The Sutton Hoo Ship-Burial: Recent Theories and Some Comments on General Interpretation
Rupert Bruce-Mitford
The interest in this book is due to the early Post-War theories that the Sutton Hoo burial/cenotaph was that of a high status Swedish noble or prince who had invaded the area, died and was buried with treasures he had seized from the local leaders and populations. Bruce-Mitford examines the similarities and differences in funerary practices, armour and gold and cloisonne work in great detail, although feeling that more work needed to be done before issuing a definitive conclusion.
